Historic Cozy Kitchen

When a pandemic lifestyle change led this family back to the bride’s small hometown, they had the great fortune of purchasing a historic home that she had admired for decades.  We had the great fortune of designing the next phase of this home’s life.  From restoring fireplaces, reworking walls and rooms, renovating bathrooms, specifying furnishings, and embracing all the story and history this home holds, we loved each phase of this project.  An absolute highlight of this project was the kitchen.  Embracing the soaring walls with rich cabinetry and hardware highlighted so many of the architectural details of this home and allowed for this large family to have the storage they needed.  The library ladder allowed for them to actually reach it all.  Great consideration was given to all of the kitchen’s functional needs for this family, and a large, adjacent butler’s pantry helped round out the storage needs.  After every detail of the cabinetry was planned, the client’s own grandfather came out of retirement to build this cabinetry.  Be still our hearts.  Here’s to many years of laughter, clanking of pans, and the smell of turkey wafting from the stunning La Cornue range in this kitchen.
